Newcastle University UK, School of Industrial and Fine Art -College of Engineering Design Art and Technology-makerere University and Uganda Community Art Skill Development and Recycling (UCASDR) Collaborative community Outreach workshop Report

The collaborative workshop conducted on 9th of July 2016 at Kalerwe was an outreach activity organized by UCASDR in conjunction with the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts  and Newcastle University.
It was  coordinated by Tusiime Mathias and fully supported and facilitated by Newcastle University Institute for creative Arts practice.
The training was attended by about 20 (twenty) artisans  and 50 (fifty) children from the Kalerwe community and was facilitated by  lecturers from the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts (CEDAT) plus a professor from Newcastle University i.e. Prof. Andrew Burton from Newcastle University was Mr. J.B. Kanuge, Dr. Lilian Nabulime ,Mr. Edward Balaba from Makerere University and students from the Art school.
We also had representatives from Kalerwe Market administration namely Mr. Kabongezo, Buzizi Rogers a batik artist as well as businessman in the market,  and an LC chairman representative. We thank the management of Godwins primary school for offering UCASDR space especially the Head Teacher Hajat Janat. The event was covered by Urban TV and aired on PM live program on 18th of Feb 2016, the New vision publications, Bukedde paper and the Independent magazine.
We thank Mr. Buzizi Rogers and Mr. Kabongezo for mobilizing the participants and ensuring that the activities are timely and organized. 
We hope to have continuous collaboration with Newcastle University Institute for creative Arts practice.
We thank Newcastle University for fully supporting the activity which included funding for everything during the workshop.
We are  looking forward Uganda community Art skill Development and recycling UCASDR to have a formal collaboration with different schools in College Engineering Design Art and Technology- Makerere University
